We hope you're all enjoying this fabulous summer! Now that the summer holidays are here, we're getting in the summer spirit with some mouth-watering recipes inspired by the flavours of our hammam towel collection. From sorbets and ice lollies to lip-smacking ice creams, the choice is endless, so here's a selection of our favourite recipes for you to try over the summer break.
Strawberries and Cream Ice Cream
In honour of our favourite Strawberries and Cream towel, we had a go at making our own ice cream. You'll need:
500 grams of strawberries
250 grams of double cream
Juice of a lemon (around two thirds)
90 grams of caster sugar
First, puree the strawberries until smooth with a blender and then add all the other ingredients mixing them in well.
Look at all those delicious strawberries!
We used an ice cream maker which took about 25 minutes to firm up. If you don't have an ice cream maker, you can also transfer your cooled mixture to the freezer and simply whisk it after 2-3 hours to break down any ice crystals, before returning it to the freezer until frozen.
A refreshing scoop of strawberries and cream ice cream!
If sorbets are more your thing, here's another refreshing recipe to try that's super-simple:
Raspberry lime sorbet
Raspberry Lime Sorbet
1 cup sugar
1 cup water, boiled
225g fresh raspberries
4 limes zested and juiced
1 cup water, boiled
225g fresh raspberries
4 limes zested and juiced
Zest and juice the limes
First, create a syrup by zesting the limes and adding to the sugar - keep hold of the limes as you'll need to juice them later on. Pour a cup of boiled water over the mixture and stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Allow it to sit for half an hour.
Allow the lime zest to infuse with the syrup
Strain the mixture into a saucepan, discarding the lime zest. Add the raspberries and bring the mixture to a boil before turning off the heat. Stir the mixture to break up the raspberries before placing into the fridge to cool.
Stir in the raspberries
Once cooled, add the juice of the limes and mix together. For best results, use an ice cream maker to freeze your sorbet as this will prevent it from turning into a big block of ice! If this isn't available to you, it's still possible to use the freezer method as detailed above, however you will need to stir the mixture more regularly than for ice cream to create a smooth texture.
